If I would have to invent something not so spectacular...
I would have to invent a remote control for TV with a paging system in it. So it won't be hard for me to locate where it usually hides. I just have to press something on our TV set and voila, I hear a beep from our remote!
This may sound a little desperate because for the nth time we lost our remote control in our mess here at home.
